The Best Air Fryer Teriyaki Chicken (Better Than Takeout!)

For the Homemade Teriyaki Sauce:

  • 1/2 cup Low-Sodium Soy Sauce (120ml) (Use Tamari for a gluten-free option)
  • 1/4 cup Honey (60ml) (Maple syrup or brown sugar can be substituted)
  • 1 tbsp Rice Vinegar (15ml)
  • 1 tsp Sesame Oil (5ml)
  • 2 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp Fresh Ginger, grated
  • 1 tbsp Cornstarch (8g)
  • 1 tbsp Water (15ml)

For the Chicken:

  • 1.5 lbs Boneless, Skinless Chicken Thighs (or Breasts), cut into 1-inch cubes (about 680g)
  • 1 tbsp Olive Oil or Avocado Oil (15ml)
  • 1/2 tsp Black Pepper
  • For Garnish (Optional):
  • 1 tbsp Sesame Seeds
  • 2 Green Onions, thinly sliced

Instructions

  1. Make Sauce: In a saucepan, whisk soy sauce, honey, vinegar, sesame oil, garlic, and ginger. Bring to a simmer.
  2. Thicken Sauce: Mix a cornstarch slurry (cornstarch + water) and whisk it into the sauce. Cook for 1-2 minutes until thickened, then set aside.
  3. Prep Chicken: Cut chicken into 1-inch cubes and toss with oil and pepper.
  4. Preheat & Cook: Preheat the air fryer to 400°F (200°C). Cook chicken in a single layer for 12-15 minutes, flipping halfway, until cooked through (165°F or 74°C).
  5. Combine & Serve: Toss the cooked chicken with the thickened teriyaki sauce. Garnish with sesame seeds and green onions and serve right away.
